the great brisbane bagel hunt is over

While there are lots of bread rolls out there masquerading as bagels, there are relatively few that are the real deal.

Miss Morag recently visited each and every bagel cafe and bakery in Brisbane in her quest for freshly baked bagels prepared the old-fashioned way - boiled and then baked.

The Great Brisbane Bagel Hunt is now over and fellow bagel lovers can take heart.

Both LaVosh Patisserie at Red Hill and Brewbakers at Albion deliver that properly dense, chewy, fresh bagel experience.

Now please excuse me while I slip quietly into a bagel-induced carb-coma.

Nice one MM, thanks for the heads up on LaVosh. I've known of the delights of Brewbakers but always good to have a back up plan.

Yep, totally agree Brewbakers is great, but for me Sunday morning is prime bagel-eating time & BB is closed Sundays. LaVosh to the rescue!

Thanks Meli, I love it! Especially the bit about the test of a proper bagel - give one to a teething baby to chew on and it won't disintegrate!

It is great to read some of the information and feedback, here. I hope to read more ideas in the future!!!

ooh, I had given up on bagels altogether. You know I live near Red Hill but have never been to LaVosh (parking a pain, and I always see it when I'm travelling away from it) but now you've given me a reason to go!

Parking certainly is a pain along that strip Gillian, but if you like proper bagels it's most definitely worth it. Hope you enjoy! Let me know what you think ...

I am from canada and i had finally found a healthy bagel (white dough feels like metal going through my digestive tract!), it was from woolies would you believe? They were soy and linseed bagels, and then POOF! they disappeared, like everything I like from there does eventually. I am looking for a bagel that is either wholewheat, wholemeal, soy and linseed, or sour dough....(sour dough seems okay). it would be GREAT Miss Morag, if you could possibly develop one like this! I would drive from redbank plains to get a whole bunch of them! In canada we have blueberry/wholemeal, and they are delicious!!!

Oh Olga, you're very funny. I can tell you're committed to the bagel hunt - a gal after my own heart. You should try Brewbaker's at Albion, and LaVosh at Red Hill. I promise you (and your digestive tract) will thank you. I'd love to hear how you go.

Brewbakers does not do any form of wholewheat or whole grain bagel
