Miss Morag used to regularly enjoy Hainan chicken rice at Singapore La in the Chinatown Mall, a little hole-in-the-wall eatery that has long since closed its doors.
Somehow MM never got around to finding another favourite source of this Hainanese-Chinese staple that is also popular in Singapore and Malaysia, and the dish kind of just dropped off the radar until a recent visit to Sunnybank.
The stock-poached chicken in Malay Corner's version is juicy and flavoursome. It comes with both a chilli sauce and a ginger and shallot sauce, and greens on the side ($10). The rice is glossy from being cooked in chicken stock. MM is glad to have rediscovered this old favourite, despite the havoc this will likely cause come cholesterol check-up time!
If deliciously oily poached chicken with the skin on is not your thing, Malaya Corner has a huge range of slightly more artery-friendly fare like these noodles with vegetables and tofu (12.90).

MM - I too used to love Singapore Lah (Roti Canai was great and so too their Ikan Bilis) and was sorry when they disappeared. Have you tried Ipoh Laksa at Kangaroo Point? A bit more 'upmarket' than funny old Singapore Lah but a girl's got to get her Malaysian fix where she can!
Hi Fiona
Ahhhh, I loved their roti canai too. You're the second person who has suggested Ipoh Laksa. Believe it or not it's practically at the end of my street and I never go there! Thanks for the tip - I'll give it a go very soon. Stay tuned ...
x MM
